Karmabhoomi by Premchand is my third book for the #DiscoveringIndiaReadathon challenge for book written in any Indian language. I choose Hindi, as though i can speak few regional languages, i cannot read or write.
The book was published first on 5th Feb 1934. The story is set in Uttar Pradesh in 1930’s where Islam and Hinduism coexisted and caste system was followed. The upper class, rich and powerful exploits the poor and illiterate irrespective of caste and religion. The book is highly influenced by Gandhiji’s satyagraha movement and revolves around the social issues that still prevails in Independent India today. The story is complex, and the characters are also complex. All characters play major role in the whole story and all individuals and groups turns into moral awakening.
Complete review will be coming up soon.
