Synopsis:

16-year-old Aurora Darlington is an orphan. Mistreated by her adopted family and bullied at school, she dreams of running away and being free. But when she is kidnapped and dragged through a portal into a magic world, suddenly her old life doesn’t seem so bad.

Avalonia is a dangerous land ruled by powerful mages and a cruel, selfish queen who will do anything to control all seven kingdoms – including killing anyone who stands in her way.

Thrust headlong into this new, magical world, Aurora’s arrival sets plans in motion that threaten to destroy all she holds dear.

With the help of a young fae, a magical Pegasus, and a handsome mage, Aurora journeys across Avalonia to learn the truth about her past and unleash the power within her. Kingdoms collide as a complicated web of political intrigue and ancient magic lead Aurora to unravel a shocking secret that will change her life forever.

Review:

This book takes you to the magical world of Avalonia inhabitant by mythical beings like fae and mages. This is a YA fantasy, story of a 16 year old Aurora. Her life is not easy. Her biological parents are killed when she was young and she is adopted by a lovely couple. But fate has something else stored for her. Unfortunately, her lovely adopted parent’s demise leaves her to stay with yet another not so loving family. She is mistreated by her aunt and cousin Cornelia. She is bullied at School.

But when she is delivered to Oblek, a powerful mage, by her uncle her world is turned upside down. She is transported to the magical world of Avalonia through a magical tapestry. This land looks horrible with magical creatures ruled by a selfish queen Morgana. What Aurora discovers about herself and her biological parents in this magical land takes her breath away. She is no ordinary girl. She is the true hire of Illiador. And the evil queen Morgana is none other than her own aunt. And before Aurora could reach her second birthday, Morgana had killed her parents to take the throne of Illiador. Aurora discovers that, not only she possess magical powers but the rarest and the powerful magic, the combined magic of a fae and mage. Now as a true heir to the throne, she has to take the responsibility to save her people from this evil queen, who is power hungry and wises to rule the all seven lands of Avalonia.

Thanks to the map at the beginning of the book which helped in the easy guidance to the places mentioned in the book. The story was pretty predictable except for the few things, like about the prince Rafael and Aurora’s mother Elayna. These two are the surprise factor in the book, which will take the story further.

I loved the way, the character Aurora as developed in the story. In the beginning she was sloppy, introvert and weak. And when she was forced into the hands of Oblek in the magical world of Avalonia, she was always in the run to escape from the shadow guards and the evil mages. In the process, she meets the talkative Kalen and the black wolf Rafe. She discovers that she has her family here in this magical land. Her uncle Gabriel accepts her into his family and helps her to find her hidden fae-mage magic. Not only that, he starts to train her to control her power and to protect herself. Her Aunt Salena and cousin Erien makes her feel as a family. In the school, at first she tries to avoid talking to anyone. But when the time demands, she starts to take the challenges against the Blackwaters. She understands what her responsibilities are. And eventually she discovers about the four keys and the book of Abraxas. This helps her and her uncle Gabriel is short out, what Morgana’s real plan is and what exactly she is after.

It will be quite interesting to read more about the dragger of dragath and how the story plots with the return of Morgana’s mother Lilith. And also I await the involvement of Aurora’s grandmother Isadora. The touch of romance between Rafe and Aurora is still to be explored. Even curious to know what role Leticia will have in their story.

If you are a fantasy lover, then you are welcome to this amazing magical world of Avalonia inhabitant by the immortal fairies, powerful mages, shadow guards, winged horses and demons. Not to forget the Manticore. I loved the description of it and was imaging it. The majestic lion like creature with furry gold body and powerful red wings leaping out of darkness with razor sharp fangs, jagged spiked tail and sharp teeth flashing in the moonlight.  But the startling gold eyes, full of intelligence and kindness. I wish to know more about this creature. And Pegasus is the cutest and the intelligent magical creature in this book.

The quote i liked the most in this book:

Everything happens for a reason, and nothing is an accident. It is all part of a much larger divine plan. When difficulties come, we must see them as what they are—opportunities and a new path to discover your potential. How will you ever know the magnitude of courage you are capable of if you have never experienced the hopelessness of fear?
