Cinder is caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal. Now she must uncover secrets about her mysterious past in order to protect Earth’s future.

Cinder is one of the hyped books, which people keep talking about. And if you have not read it, you feel like an outcast. So to join the bandwagon one has to read it. And I am really happy that I read this book finally. You can see that I read this book just in one day. You can understand how addictive and good this book was. I heard people saying it’s re-telling of the fairy tale Cinderella. And it is true. I would rather say it is sci-fiction version of Cinderella.

Cinder is a cyborg mechanic with no memory of her past. She has a prosthetic foot and a hand. She is aided by her robot companion Iko. She has her stepmother Adri and stepsisters Pearl and Peony. Her stepmother hates her the most and keeps reminding her that she cannot have feelings or emotions for anyone as she is not human.

Though this book is re-telling of Cinderella, it has so many twists and turns. I admire the author’s imagination. Adding sci-fiction technologies like hovercars, screens, id bracelets, andriods to a fairy tale with so many twists, really holds the interest of the readers.

There is prince Kai, who comes to Cinder to repair his android. He has a huge responsibility to lead the nation, as his father is attacked by incurable disease Letumosis, whose cure is yet to be discovered. He is going to become the emperor of New Beijing and had placed the royal ball for his coronation ceremony.

Peony is diagnosed of Letumosis and is taken to quarantine. Cinder is blamed for this. Meanwhile, Cinder founds an old car in the basement and has made her plans to escape from her stepmother and lead a free life with Iko. But Cinder is handed over to the royal hospitals to become a guinea pig for the Letumosis anti-node testing by Adri. The story from here takes a big twist and become more interesting.

Queen Levana, the Lunar Queen, has the power to manipulate the thoughts of mass and she wants to take over the Earth. Queen Levana is the perfect villain, means the types one would make you hate them more and more. And Adri is perfect for household domestic villain in the main character’s life.

Since, it’s a sci-fic, the substitutes for Cinder’s carriage and glass slippers are really cool. And let me tell you there is no fairy to make Cinder party ready to go to the royal ball. That is where I love Cinder more. I love the way the character Cinder has developed to despite her circumstances. I love the way the secrets about Cinder’s past are uncovered. I love the way Cinder takes up her duty and loyalty to her nation.

Soon, the whole world would be searching for her – Linh Cinder.

A deformed cyborg with a missing foot.

A Lunar with a stolen identity.

A mechanic with no one to run to, nowhere to go.

But they would be looking for a ghost.
