Feyre is a huntress. She thinks nothing of slaughtering a wolf to capture its prey. But, like all mortals, she fears what lingers mercilessly beyond the forest. And she will learn that taking the life of a magical creature comes at high price…
Imprisoned in an enchanted court in her enemy’s kingdom, Feyre is free to roam but forbidden to escape. Her captor’s body bears the scars of fighting, and his face is always masked – but his piercing stare draws her ever closer. As Feyre’s feelings for Tamlin begin to burn through every warning she’s been told about his kind, and ancient, wicked shadow grows. Feyre must find a way to break a spell, or lose her heart forever.
Absolutely amazing book. I picked read book after seeing so much hype about it. And i am definitely not disappointed. I loved everything about this book, the Beauty and Beast fairy tale narration, the Faerie mythical beings and their magic.
The beginning of the book was little slow narrating the pity condition of Feyre that forced her to become a hunter and struggle to feed her family. At this moment i felt Feyre is always whining about how much she cared for her family and how none of her sisters even bothered. But as the story progresses Feyre turns into a real strong character. When she takes the decision to return back to Faerie land to save Tamlin and face Amarantha, the story becomes fast phased and more interesting.
Tamlin is very strong, ferocious and dangerous and is one of the high fae. I fell in love with this character. His character begins as an anti-hero and with the progress of story it turns into the main hero. In this re-telling of Beauty and Beast, Tamlin represents the Beast. The only thing is this story is more fascinating, with so many mythical characters, with different hierarchy of Faeries and lots of magic involved.
Feyre’s sister Nesta is one of the very strong characters in the story. Faerie glamour does not work on her. She takes the risk to find Feyre and get her back home from her capture. She treks two days to find a way to reach Prythian. She is the one who motivates Feyre and gives her courage to return to Prythian to save Tamlin.
By the end of the story Rhysand seems like becoming a hero by helping Feyre in her tasks and challenges to beat Amarantha to save Tamlin and his land. And there was not much actions from Tamlin’s end. But he cannot beat Tamlin. Alis too helps and guides Feyre in her quest. Not to forget Lucien. I felt he is the most suffered and most sensible character is this whole story and kept the atmosphere light.
This book is super addictive and if you are a fan of romance then this book has every dose in it. Just turn to chapter 27 and you get it all. Fantasy, romance, myth, thrill, love, hatred, magic all bundled in this one book. I wish this book to be made a movie adaptation. In the sequels, want to see more of action from Nesta and Rhysand as these two are very potential characters and should not be just kept in the sidelines. I have already added Sarah J. Maas in my auto buy authors lists.
